Does anyone know the settings on the phone when you go for exercise?  New to the Galaxy family and when I went for a bike ride only the first few metres recorded?

It is possible that the connection between the phone and your Versa was interrupted during the activity. I'd recommend that you try following the steps in here to check what could be happening.
