Versa won't sync unless the app is connected to WiFi.

Hello, I hope someone can help me with this.  I am on the verge of returning the fitbit versa I just purchased. It seems that I am unable to sync the fitbit with the app unless I am using wifi.  I have unlimited cellular data, I have no need to connect via wifi. The android version I have is 8.0. I'm open to try anything because I'd really like to keep it but only if wifi isn't necessary.

Hi, @MariRox , wifi should not be required for a sync.  The sync uses bluetooth, and as long as your bluetooth device (phone, tablet, computer) is connected to the internet, it does not matter HOW it os connected.  Cellular data is fine.  I think wifi is necessary or recommended only for a small number of processes -- updating the operating system or downloading music.  For day to day operation you do not need wifi.

So it sounds like you are having some other issue.  Can you post what device you are syncing with (which phone) and when was the last time and date of your last sync?  (You can see that information by clicking on the Versa icon in your app).

Sense, Charge 5, Inspire 2; iOS and Android

Hello Julia,
I am using a new versa and my phone is a samsung galaxy s8 and the android version is 8.0. I checked the bluetooth, which is on and shows that it is paired with the versa but it won't show that it's connected to the versa. I connected to a wifi network and it synced today at 6:40ish.
Please help!!!
Thank you,
Marilyn

Hello @MariRox thanks for joining the Fitbit Community. It's nice to see you too @Julia_GSmiley Happy

@MariRox I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. I have moved your post from the iOS board to the Android board as you mentioned you're using Android 8.0.

Now, adding to what @Julia_G mentioned, if you're able to see the Versa paired in the Bluetooth devices of your phone, the Versa is syncing with the Fitbit app and you're able to get Notifications, that means your Versa is working as it should. You might see in the Bluetooth settings that the Versa does not appear "connected' but that's because it's not transferring data between itself and the phone. Note as well that your Versa will not sync or pair through the Bluetooth settings of your phone.

I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else we can do for you, please feel free to reply.
