I have tried to use wallet at several facilities where is used to work.  I get a message that the chip needs to be read

Hi @madmouse. Welcome to the Community. I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well for your efforts while working on this matter. To further investigate, may I know if this happens when trying to set a debit/credit card on wallet in the Fitbit app? Or does it happen when using Fitbit Pay for your purchases? Also, is the error message appearing on the Fitbit app or on your watch?

I'll also need you to provide me with:

  • The model of your Fitbit.
  • The Fitbit app version.
  • Your phone's model and OS version.
  • A screenshot or picture of the error message. To attach it in your reply, check the steps described here.
