Just installed the app on my Android samsung tablet to set up my sons new inspire. All synced to phone as planned but clicking on the watch faces button or apps button in the app doesn't do anything. Have seen elsewhere it could be a dns issue but my pihole isn't showing any blocked requests going out, and disabling pihole temporarily has no impact. clearing app cache has no benefit either.
Any suggestions ?
Best AnswerHi @jpmoriarty I moved your post to the Android app forum, a better fit for your issue.

Out of curiosity, is your son a member of Family Link and is a supervised account?

Hi @jpmoriarty - you are right to check a DNS issue, later Android and Samsung devices may implement a private DNS setting, possibly check it is not enabled to ensure full access.

No, he's using my account so no age restrictions
Best AnswerIt's odd. private dns is off and i disabled pihole and still didn't work. Set up on my work iPhone instead, no changes to pihole, was able to set up faces and apps perfectly. Back to android tablet this morning and now the buttons work, but errors when I try and install anything unless I disable pihole again. Again, works fine on iPhone.
I can only think the android app is doing additional queries that are getting blocked, but that it won't even work with pihiole disabled confuses me. Looks like it's a pretty crappily designed bit of software so i assume the good Google engineers just have been busier on a higher priority product!

@jpmoriarty - indeed app problems do occur and sometimes appear with new updates.
To get the Android app version working better, swipe it off, clear the storage cache, force stop it, and restart the tablet. This can sometimes clear temporary glitches which may also be the cause in this case.
