I've had a similar experience. My goal progress would report that I had reached my goal, when in fact I had not.
I would then tap "EDIT GOAL" (next to "LOG WEIGHT"), in an attempt to reset it (selecting "Lose", then choosing targets), but the status would remain unaffected.
I finally realized that the workaround is to go into settings for Weight (tap the widget icon)...the issue finally revealed itself. Though I had selected "Lose" in the past, the settings showed "Gain." Fortunately, changing it here actually applies the change.

I'm trying to set up a new fit bit and have tried numerous times using both the App on my phone and the Fitbit Dashboard on my laptop, but I am unable to change my goal weight. I have deleted my previous goal weight,I have reset and saved my new goal weight, but every time i return to look at the dashboard,it still has my old weight stored. All the rest of the setup is going smoothly, but not this and its getting frustrating as I've done everything suggested to change my goal weight ,but its not working. Any ideas ? Thanks

I sent this question to the manufacturer support dept:
" I have an app sync scale. When I go into the settings on my phone to change my weight goal it appears to accept my change to goal however when I go back to the chart I still have my old goal. Am I doing something wrong? "
They responded:
"The font on your phone is too large to see the Submit button! Simply go into your settings, then click on Display, followed by font size and lower it! That should fix it!"
This did correct my problem on my phone app and it now will work.
Since my font size was not unrealistically large, I asked the manufacturer if they could correct this for modestly larger user font size selections. [I use reading glasses].

Had this too. Very frustrating. Months of changing the goal only for it to reset back to gain when I wanted to lose... see I'd previously hit my goal but then got diagnosed with diabetes, stuck on medication and piled the pounds back on. I needed to lose again. You can do this from the app. Go into the weight tab, where you have the option to edit your goal. *Don't* click "edit goal" - instead click the gear icon for settings. Again, you will be tempted to click on you goal and edit it. This wont work either!! Click on the 3 dots menu at the top right (is it an ellipsis?) And DELETE your weight goal. Then you can set up a new one and it works perfectly 🙂
Job done!!
