Where has Fitbit app version 4.29 gone?

I updated to v 4.29 a few days ago and still had all the same issues that we've all been complaining about.

Today I checked my version number and it had changed to 4.28.2?!! Did they roll back?

So I went to Play Store and it said there was another version available, so I downloaded it and am now on v 4.28.3!

I'm so confused.  I wonder what, if anything, 4.28.3 has fixed. Guess I will find out soon unless it all disappears again! 😂

4.28 sort of bricked a bunch of units. Could not sync or pair to the app. Folks having problems has been all over theses boards. Took till the 4.28.3 app version to get one that got my Charge six working again with Android phone. The .1 and .2 did not do it. Have not seen a 4.29 update version.

@Odyssey13 that doesn't say what happened to 4.29?

Best Answer

@Linz16it's the announcement of the latest app. I'm not sure if Fitbit tells us more than when a new app is available.

@Odyssey13 my phone automatically updates when new versions are available, unless I catch it early and update manually.

I was on 4.29 last week which is clearly 'newer' than 4.28.x

That's now mysteriously disappeared and I am on 4.28.3.

So either they've rolled back realising 4 29 had issues, or something else weird is going on.

@Linz16I've asked a Fitbit Moderator to stop by to address this with you.

Hi there, @Linz16 and @Frimmel@Odyssey13 Thanks for the heads up!

@Linz16 and @Frimmel Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I understand your concern and I'd like to share with you that this new version is still rolling out to all our members, so you'll have to wait until it's fully available for you.

In regards to the syncing issues, our team is aware and currently working to get it resolved as soon as possible. Nevertheless, I'm sorry for any inconveniences this has caused. What I'd recommend is keeping the Fitbit app up-to-date as our team usually releases fixes through updates.

4.29 is broken. You don't want it.

  • @LizzyFitbit thanks for the response.  However v4.29 WAS available to me, I installed it and then it disappeared and my app reverted to 4.28.2! What happened? Then it said another update was available which turned out to be 4.28.3! It's all very confusing for users, I think what we all really want to know is when will a version be released where everything is working the way it was 14 months ago?
  • Before September 2023 none of us even needed to know about versions and which one were we on, and when was the next one coming, it was a non issue because everything worked. It's just so bizarre!

@Trouserdeagle I'm sure you are correct! I just want someone at Fitbit to acknowledge that 4.29 was rolled out then rolled back and it's not me going crazy!!

How do you get updates if your fitbit doesn't sync?

I still can't get mine to sync. I have deleted and reinstalled the app.

@Bertnky You go to the Play store, search for Fitbit, the Fitbot app will appear at the top of your screen. If the option next to it just says 'open', there is no update available to you. If it says 'update' instead of 'open', there's an updated version that you can download, just click on the Update button.

Hi everyone!

Thanks for your continued feedback. I understand that some of you saw the 4.29 version available on your phone; however, it might be that our team wanted to confirm its performance before it was released to all our members. Nevertheless, I appreciate your feedback as it helps us to evaluate our services and improve them.

In regards to the syncing issues, our team is still working to get this fixed soon. Please make sure to exhaust our troubleshooting steps and keep the Fitbit app updated to the latest version.

Everything was working okay for me (though functionality has declined a lot since Google took over) until I got v 4.29 last week. It has lots of bugs affecting Pixel phone users. I only wish they would roll it back!

I'm on Phone App Version 4.30 (Build 110146981) - and I have not been able to sync my Pixel 3 Watch to Fitbit since November 14th - probably when I received 4.30, but it doesn't tell me WHEN it was updated - only the version I'm on...

@LizzyFitbit  I have the 4.29 version on my Android phone. It has never transferred activity from my FitBit to the app. However, it seemed to pick up random short walks, and I was able to save some activities manually. Version 4.29 appears to be recording Active Minutes, which is a plus, but I don't know how reliable the app is now.

Disappointingly, when I viewed the app on Friday, Nov. 15th, all of the "Exercise days" had been wiped for the week. I exercised every day that week except Monday.
