Hi @MrTanner

Just to let you know, you don't have to move your Fitbit account to Google right now. However, from the announcement I read, it will be required of all Fitbit users in early 2025.

If you are connected to family & friends in your Fitbit app, they will not appear when you switch to Google. They will also have to switch to Google in order for you to connect to them. Also, there are currently issues if the primary account for a family account switches to Google, mostly related to the children's Fitbit accounts.

BTW, I made the switch a couple of days ago and have not had any problems. Knock on wood.

Hi @MrTanner - good question, there is no apparent benefit for the user, in fact it can cause problems, especially as you can't go back..

Hi @RiekoC

Really appreciate your answer to @MrTanner 's question. I was wondering the same thing. Did the announcement say what will happen to any users who have not moved to Google in 2025?

Hi @acidtest

According to this page "What should I know about moving Fitbit to Google account" , it sounds like one's Fitbit device may stop syncing with the app if the account is not migrated to Google.

What if I don't want to move Fitbit to a Google account?

If you’re already a Fitbit customer, you can continue to use your existing Fitbit account with your existing Fitbit devices and services for as long as Fitbit accounts are supported. This will be until at least 2025. After support of Fitbit accounts ends, a Google account will be required to use Fitbit.

Not to the consumer. To Google, absolutely. They will strip the tech they need and then let the product rot. Like they did with Nik Efex and many others.
