Why is Android 7.1.1 still not supported?

It is unacceptable that FitBit will not continue to support Android 7.1.1. Do I have to buy a new phone? No, I think it may be cheaper to go to a more customer friendly company's product.

Hi @npiv  technology changes so fast these days. I'm using Android 9 and pretty soon I'll need a new phone as Android 10 is the minimum. It's the same with Apple users needing iOS 13 or higher. In order to fully use all the features of our devices, we need the app to work with our phones. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy 8 and is getting older. It's just something we all need to remember when mixing our wearables with our portables.

@npiv   I'm an iPhone user, so I usually don't answer questions in this forum.  I found a link that said that Android 7 isn't supported by Google anymore and that there won't be any security updates.  I'm not including the link, because I could be wrong.  This is something you need to check out for your own phone security.

Google's apps - which most developers follow when deciding what to support - still work with Android 5+. But apparently Google-owned companies like Fitbit don't need to follow Google.

Android 5 was released 9 years ago, I don't think any app still supports 5. 6 months ago Android 13 was released. 

Running 7 would be like running XP on a laptop.

To clarify, it is true that Fitbit App Version 3.72 is the latest to support Android 8 (Oreo). This means that users who have Oreo will not be able to download the next version of the Fitbit App, NOT that Fitbit will stop working with Android 8.

What you can't do with Android 8 is uninstall the Fitbit Ap, because the Fitbit App will no longer appear in the Google Play Store unless you're running Android 9 or higher. There is a workaround for that as well, but....

Apps by Google requires from Android 5  (Google Assistant) to Android 10 (Google LLC)

I'm going to close this thread as you all mentioned. Android 9 is the min. version that is going to support the Fitbit app at this time. 

Android 7.1.1 is a bit old.
