Will the Fitbit app (MobileTrack) count steps if I have no data/internet?

I don’t currently own a Fitbit watch, my fiancé and I just got into working out more and eating better and stuff. I have downloaded the Fitbit phone app( I have apple he has android) to help, my phone currently has no data so when I go on my walks I’ll have no connection, will the app still count my steps?

Hi, @kadhav, welcome to the community, I think your best way forward is to try it out. On the Fitbit app on your Android phone (you do not mention the make or model & OS) touch the device icon in the top left corner>phone>and follow the prompts. The absence of a data connection may limit the information you see (if any) I regret I do not have any Apple phone experience but you could post your question at  iOS App - Fitbit Community

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

@kadhav   Yes, you can set up and use your phone to track your steps without a data connection.  This feature is called MobileTrack and is described in this Help article.  The help article also has the setup instructions.  Your phone will count your steps, calculate your distance, and estimate your calorie burn.

I actually learned something new reading this article.  A Fitbit only stores seven days of detailed data, so someone must sync their Fitbit often enough for their data to get transferred to their account.  According to the Help article, your phone can store weeks and months of basic data.  You should sync your data from time to time, so it gets to your account.  You need an internet connection to sync.  If you have a home wi-fi or have access to a wi-fi hot spot, you can sync then.

@LZeeW @Gr4ndp4 Thanks for your input and explanation. Very valuable.

@kadhav Welcome to the forums. Thanks for your interest in Fitbit. I am glad to read you have chosen to follow more active lifestyle. Fitbit will definitely help you in this journey. I have never been in this position, but I assume it will work such as a Fitbit device. It will track your movement and once you have an internet connection, the gathered data will be synced with your account. The sensor tracking your steps does not require internet connection; the syncing of the collected data does.  I also recommend you read the following article: How do I track my steps with Fitbit with my phone?. There you find more information about this feature. Have a nice day!
