Workout Stats

Hi all, I have a Pixel Watch 2, but I also had a Pixel Watch 1. During a workout, ever since my Pixel Watch 1 I've been able to swipe left on the screen and it gives me stats on my workout. So during a hike for example, swiping left tells me the calories burned, average pace, elevation gained. However, the last month or so swiping left now gives me a screen that says "to use media controls, play something from your phone or watch". And I now don't have any access to those additional stats.

So does anyone know what I've done to get that screen, or what I can do to get the stats back. I can't find anything on the net about it and I have "Auto-launch media controls" turned off.

Thanks!

Hi @cn198 - I don't have a Pixel watch to check but it's possible the tiles are rearranged in the phone App.

Hello @cn198

To add to Guy's response, it sounds like a media tile got added to your Pixel Watch "carousel" and took the place of where your Exercise tile was. Have you swiped left past the media control tile to see if you can find your Exercise tile?

You can rearrange and add tiles using the Pixel Watch app:

  • Open the app and tap on Tiles.
  • Tap on the pencil icon in the upper right
  • Now you can rearrange the order of the tiles and delete any tiles that you don't want in the carousel
  • If your Exercise tile isn't in the list, go back a page & tap on the Add Tiles icon at the bottom
  • Scroll to find either Last activity or Exercise Quick launch and add it to your list.
  • Use the above steps to move the tile to the top so that it will appear when you swipe left

This isn't on the tile carousel, this is during a workout. So you select a workout, like "Hike" from the exercise menu, or even from the "Quick start" tile, and it launches you into the exercise screen. Once launched, it tells you things like heart rate, time elapsed, calories etc... But you can swipe right, where the screen then allows you to pause the workout, or end the workout. Swiping left gave you extra stats like average pace, elevation gained. But it's this latter swipe that doesn't show stats anymore, it just shows a media control screen.

I have the same issue as @cn198.

Specifically while tracking hiking, the 2nd screen showed additional stats. But now the 2nd screen seems to have been replaced by "to use media control".

Under the Hike settings -> Stats displayed, it shows only 4 slots, and elevation gained can be selected for one of the slots. I don't know know if the previous version had option for more slots because I was happy with the default stats reporting.

This seems to be a downgrade in the feature set, and it doesnt make sense. I hope it gets restored to be display more stats as it used to.

The Hike settings have always shown a limited number of slots, with those options, so that hasn't really changed I don't believe. It's just this swipe left screen that's now changed. It's also not limited to the hike workout, the spinning one does it too. It's very annoying as I used those additional stats a lot.

Hello @cn198 , @AbeinCA

Thank you so much for explaining the issue. My apologies for misunderstanding this issue you're experiencing.

Let me see if I can find out more information and report back when I have something to share.

Ok so I've just had a baffling chat session with Fitbit support. Their advice was "in the Fitbit app, look for exercise settings. See if there are options to customize the data screens displayed during workouts." Not entirely helpful to solving the problem. But they went on to say... "I've checking with my team and the exercise stats screen has been replaced with a non-interactive media control screen on the Google pixel watch 2."

I am absolutely baffled that a device for measuring and improving performance would remove away most of the stats for a workout and replace it with a screen that does nothing. I almost don't believe that's true. Surely it has to be a bug!
