Aria Air not showing body fat

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just received my aria air in the mail today. It shows me my body weight and BMI, but it doesn’t show my body fat %. I’ve tried taking the batteries out, I double checked my height in the app, but no luck. Can anyone help before I call customer service?

Sorry, but Aria Air does not measure body fat.  That's one reason it costs less than the other Fitbit scales.

Then the Fitbit website is displaying false advertising because it specifically says that it calculates your BMI based on your weight and height through sensors. "Weight and BMI: Four load cells measure weight. BMI is calculated and displayed based on weight and height." Under Specs

Here's a review which states that it measures BMI.

Thoughts?

Yes, it does measure, or more precisely calculate, BMI.  But that has nothing to do with body fat %.

BMI (body mass index) is calculated just from height and weight.  It has nothing to do with body fat %.  You can google the calculation for BMI it is an exact formula using only height and weight.

2 people with the same height and weight will have the exact same BMI regardless of body composition; one could be a bodybuilder with lots of muscle, and the other full of body fat.  They could still both have same BMI.

Where does the BMI get calculated in the app?. The app should also have a BMI section there too and then just auto calculate the BMI as advertised. On that review, it seems to show that the BMI is recorded in that % fat field. Does anybody see the BMI field in the app if they have the Aria 2?

On the compare scales area, it does show that the Arias Air does not support the "Track weight data and more" which contradicts the device specs on the Aria Air page.

If the device only tracked the weight and not BMI really why not just by a normal cheaper scale and manually input it into your app? From what I see the Bluetooth upload takes longer to sync than just to manually put it in there.

The only reason I bought this was that I needed a new scale anyways because my old scale screamed it's last scream and I was curious about the wireless tech for BMI/weight.

🙂

<EDIT> "I found the graph up top of the app when u first open it. Just swipe it to the left and the BMI is recorded there. I'd probably make it more convenient and have it show where the weight and fat % is. When I make my own fitness devices and apps I will. :)"

This happened to me.  I just assumed the Aria Air would have BF sensors.... Why would an upgraded scale have less features than the one it replaced?  Long story short, I returned it because it was effectively useless.

Perhaps not assume every newer device is an "upgrade", especially when it is less than half the price.  It could be for a different market, or for people having trouble getting scale to connect to Wi-Fi.
