3000 calories for 5000 steps???

Hi,

How do I set up my fitbit to accurately track calories? ?? I don't think I can burn 3000 calories in 5000 steps. It's messing up MFP tracking too.

Thanks.

The calories burned are BMR calories. Your fitbit also calculates calories burned for your BMR. You burn calories just by being alive! Even Sleeping. Fitbit includes these burned calories in it's calorie calculations, so even if you did not wear the fitbit, you'll still burn these calories.

Hi,

I get how the calories are calculated, but it seems really inaccurate. I get that technology is not perfect, but it's really discouraging if it is not accurate.

Yeah those numbers make no sense....I racked up 14,000 steps today including a 30-minute outdoor bike ride and I'm at 3400 calories right now at day's end. I'd try setting it up over again from scratch....failing that then contacting Fitbit customer support.

Thank you! I'll try that! The most upsetting thing is that it's messing up myfitnesspal account too. Thank you!
