Active Minutes

Hi,

So me and my friend both wear Fitbit watches, and I was wondering why our active minutes are so different.

We leave the house at the same time and go to university together. We go to the same classes and walk at the same pace together to each of our classes. Why does she end up with 100+ active minutes and I have between 0-10 after a whole day of walking about?

Thanks!

Hi, @LMccoll, Active Minutes are awarded when the Fitbit detects (by reading your heartrate) that for 10 consecutive minutes you are burning 3 times your BMR calorie burn (BMR calories, as you orobably know, are the calories your body burns just staying alive).  Your estimated BMR calorie burn is based on your gender, age, height and weight, so your friend's BMR could be very different from yours.  Your heartrate response to walking may also be quite different from your friend's.

Do you both have your height/weight/etc set correctly?

Are you both in about the same physical shape? A person in better shape has to work harder to get those active minutes in.
