When on a long trek and frustrated/impatient with the outside brightness setting I hold the left and lower right button fully depressed at the same time until my Blaze vibrates. Usually brightens it up unless the battery is low. Give it a try @Dave1313, when things are calmer you can adjust to the preferred brightness/battery saving setting in your device settings.

I know that it would be great to have an option to adjust the brightness of the Blaze to your preference, please take a look at the brightness setting and longer display times request, vote for it and leave your comment. In the meantime, you can try to restart your Blaze as our friend suggested.
