Now, don't get me wrong. I think the Charge 2 is basically the pinnacle.
But as someone who has been: only sort of peripherally aware of the Fitbit for many years, and had a wife who got a Fitbi Charge 2 for Xmas: I must say, first impressions:
- the Fitbit app is really impressive in scope and design, barring 1 thing (heh)
- the Blaze is definitely more interesting than the Charge POST update, i.e. 3rd party notifications and more watch faces
- I like the design a lot and appreciate the fact that Fitbit got behind this design. It is honestly a really intelligent compromise between bold design and utility (form vs function. hoary as that is, it applies still) and man, it's really good.
I very rarely leave comments like this but I really do like the product. Here is what I would suggest for whomever is reading at Fitbit:
All watch faces should have 'tappable' modes ala the 'Pop' mode. make that a requirement. if the data doesn't fit the visual metaphor then create something new. i.e. the Circuit watch face should show a radiating circle sync'd to heartbeat speed and a BPM number, rather than a dumb heart icon and a full circular progress bar. commit to each watch face and make tappable modes applicable. The most interesting thing about wearing a Fitbit instead of a regular watch is A) knowing daily steps taken and b) pervasive heart rate monitoring, so those should be easily available besides via the Today view. Although I have to admit I tend to like the Pulse view because it is Fancy Analog but my heart lies with the Moment view, which I feel totally embraces the Braunn / German / Minimalist Typography approach. More graphs like Pulse, i.e. over 24h instead of 1h, would be rad.
I feel like there was probably a big fight over the Blaze design choice and I have to say, it's pretty great, even though I totally understand both the round design purists, as well as those who think it's basically too 80's Delorean retro-dork. I like the look, and it actually makes sense from a functionality POV (removing the module, leaning into what it is. etc). I would put this design in the MOMA, no joke. It's so smart. But it took risks to get there and I respect that. I am a child of 1975 so the retro-dorky-almost-movie-prop look resonates.
I want more Pulse type inforgraphics. I love it.
Mostly I wanted to say – I've seen reviews asking Who This Is For, and really, it's for me. I only wanteed Notifications and Music Control from the Apple Watch. Honestly. And almost everything I have is Apple. But the Watch is over engineered. The Blaze is a really good idea. Thanks.
p.s. the water resistance is a big deal to me to but not over all the other things

* oh the 1 thing I Health Kit integration of course. But I will take Fitbits offering over all of them combined, IF they add Macros to the food tracking in MFP.
