Need some tips for getting this to work on a bike. i am willing to buy something to work with my blaze if need be but so far it does not seem to be registering properly.

The Blaze is essentially a pedometer that measures stepping activities. Biking is not a step activity. In order to provide any meaningful data on biking you need to use a GPS to track your ride. The Blaze does not have a built in GPS (Only the Surge does) so you need to carry a compatible phone with you connected to the Blaze which will use the phone's GPS. Take a look at page 15 of the user manual.
