Blaze Bike Tracking - Always get "Check Fitbit App" or "Phone Not Found"

Every day I bike to and from work, and almost every day I get "Phone Not Found" or "Check FitBit App" when I try and track my biking with my Fitbit blaze. Sometimes I get both throughout the day. Thing I try regularly:

  • Restart fitbit app (never works, the "Force Stop" on android doesn't seem to be able to stop the fitbit app from running in the many tests I've done).
  • Restart my phone
  • Restart my blaze
  • Toggle bluetooth
  • Toggle data
  • Toggle location
  • Uninstall and reinstall the fitbit app
  • Unpair and repair my blaze.

At best the behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes there are days where it just won't work and I have to wait a day or two before I can use it again. This has happened from time to time since I ordered my blaze at launch, but it's happened a lot more frequently in the last month or so.

Any ideas? Is there any solution to this madness? I love my blaze but tracking my biking via gps and all associated data is one of my primary daily uses and it's very frustrating to practically lose this functionality on a fairly new device.

@jakechs  Make sure you have the App at least opened and running - even if just in background.  I know I will get that error if I forget to launch the app, then once I open, it will connect to the GPS.

I'll start off by asking which phone are we talking about, this is 50% of the setup, @jakechs

Next do you get the same check message when tracking a walk or run?

If on android, there's an 80% chance you are, swipe down on the home screen, is Fitbit notifacations running?

Are you able to receive notifacations on the Blaze? The GPS connects through this.

Is always connected set to on, and enabled notifacstion wizard on?

Just some things to check, some of which are not necessary unless they are needed.. The only way to tell would be to try.

I’m getting the check Fitbit app message.  My Blaze is new since aug 2017 and the cycling gps was working fine but has stopped in the last two weeks.  No reason as far as I can tell. I’ve checked notifications , blue tooth connections etc. It’s frustrating as this was part of the app functions that was really useful. I use Strava anyway at the same time which hasn’t been a problem as both apps use my gps position . My other notifications work ok for what’s app and text messages. Any help would be appreciated.
