Blaze Water Resistance

ANSWERED

Time and time again we have asked you people to make the device Water Proof.

Why can't you get it through your thick skulls that there are water sports/activities.

Can I wear my Blaze while swimming?

Fitbit Blaze is rain, sweat, and splash proof. We recommend that you do not swim or shower while wearing Blaze.

I have a waterproof watch so l don’t take it off in the shower or when l swim which is almost daily. When are some sports accessory manufacturers going to figure out that people who are into fitness do not want to have to treat a fitness device like an a sacred jewel? I take my basic fitbit into the shower and the sea when l swim and have been doing it for nearly 2 years without a problem. So why not with the new units? People who are serious would pay more and there are currently some devices that already provide water resistance which is all we are asking for.

Tturk1 - EXACTLY!!!! I love my Fitbit Charge HR but if they don't annunciation a version that you can shower and swim with By the time Garmin releases it's new Vivoactive HR in May that's where I'm going. If you look, the threads on asking Fitbit for this feature go back to 2013. They've heard the requests, they just don't want to do it.

I haven't seen a a water resistance rating of the Blaze, but to be legally rated for shallow swimming it needs to withstand a 150 foot static depth.

It's not difficult, but what if you forget? You might forget to take it off, so it should have more water resistance.

@MatthewFitbit the garmin D2 pilot watch is water proof and has altimeter fuction so I wouldn't use that

excuse.

Water resistance for swimming and water proof for diving are two completely different things. This device does not need to be waterproof and depth tested to 150ft, only to 10-15ft for swimmers like my current basic fitbit obviously is.

Please remember that these tests are static tests. This meams that the watch is placed into a water chamber amd the pressure inceased geadually.

Testing it to 10 feet would only certify it for splash proof. To legally certify for a depth of a normal pool a watch needs to be static tested to 50 meters, or IP7. Currently it has been illegal since the 1960's to classify a watch as waterproof.

So what is the Fitbit flex which is described on Fitbits’ website as a “Water-resistant wristband with up to 5-day battery life”

It obviously can be used for swimming but l doubt if it had been depth tested to 150ft!

The Flex, Charge, and Charge HR are all rated at 1 ATM, or at least they were. Legally they can not be advertised as swimproof. However their are many who use all three for swimming, do a search of youtube. Remember that you swim at your own risk.

The term water resistance refers to a status of resistance to being harmed by water. So a water resistance of 0 means that no contact with water is recomended.

Even if they don't want t to spend the money to make everything waterproof, they could make ONE TRACKER that can be used for swimming! My goodness, look at all of their products! If other companies can do it, they should be able to...

That being said, I swim in my flex all the time. NO ISSUES in 2 years. The only issues I have with the flex are the wireless chargersthat keep getting shorts in their short little wires. I have to replace them constantly!

I have all kinds of flex braclets in all kinds of colors and some that I have DIY'ed for nights out when dressed up, and I am still considering going to another company when I upgrade. I have the Aria scale and I have been a loyal customer for years, but I really want to be able to swim in the next fitness tracker. At the very least, they could make a waterproof casing with a watch band. I, for one, couldn't care less about an altimeter if I am doing an activity that doesn't need it. But as of now, I have to set my phone with a timer and count my laps on my own because there isnt a function to convert distance from land to water.

Looks like Garmin may be getting my money next upgrade, unless Fitbit steps it up.I will just have to sync everything to my fitness pal,

@nmliggins1105 Your idea is actually a really great idea.  How about FIT simply make Flex 2.0 the disignated water-proof fitness tracker.  So, if we have a charge HR or Blaze, we can simply buy the Fitbit Flex whenever we go swimming.  I like this idea.

Also, I am sure Fitbit or third party can make a waterproof casing for the Blaze.  Might be more challenging for the Alta, charge HR and Surge.

Mike,

the whole idea of this forums is to get feedback from the customers for the development of new functionality. Your comment negates the whole paradigm of having the community.

As a new user I can see a lot of customers wanting the waterproof devices, Fitbit must be having technical hurdles to make it happen, but instead of speaking clearly, they decide to give us a weak excuse. I love my Fitbit blaze, but now I see to tomtom, misfit and garmin giving me options for waterproof devices, for how long we will stay loyal to Fitbit?

Agree the gobbledegook around water resistance, water proofing is just a smokescreen to avoid the fact that other companies are catering to consumer needs. Remember, Nokia Fitbit!

The flex doesn't have an altimeter in it anyway so I dont know why that is even an argument.

This is disengenious. There are plenty of ABC watches out there that include waterproofing including smart devices that include 3 bar of water resisentency.

More gobbledegook to take the focus off the fact that they cant even build a swim-proof device. If its made for athletes then assume they will also spend lots of time in the water! When you work out or are physically active, you also shower 2-3 times a day so taking it off every time is really a joke.

Garmin manged to make the touch screen vivosmart HR waterproof and it costs alot less than $200.  I love the Blaze but agree waterproofing would be better

I checked out the site and saw charge hr, but instead of its usual 150$, it cost 260$! It does warn about the altimeter. I'm not a swimmer so I wouldn't go the extra 110$, but it's a good choice for the serous swimmers that can afford the extra cash.

You can get a refurbished one for 180$, so that's reasonable, 30$ mid than original.

Sorry the Garmin.has a 5ATM rating which is the same as the Surge.

Legally this means no showers, no ocean, no diving into pools,  only shallow swimming in calm water.
