I don't think the calorie counts are accurate either. I am over 20,000 steps a day. Fitbit says I am burning 3700 calories a day. I am tracking my calories I eat, which are around 2000. Over the last 2 weeks I have lost 3.2lbs which translates to around a 758 calorie deficit a day. Fitbit would say I am at a 1600 calorie deficit a day. I am glad I didn't eat all the calories fitbit told me to eat. I have only been doing this for 2 weeks so I need more data, but my feeling is that this is accurate.
All these numbers will be different for different people, but for me fitbit is off by 15-20%. I only need to loose 15lbs so I am ok with this. As long as I am aware. I don't want to loose too fast, as this would lower my BMR.

@JoeKitz @JessZ If you aren't already, I would recommend wearing your Blaze two to three fingers width above your wrist and to wear it a little bit snug, but not tight to the point where it restricts blood flow.
Heart rate and motion are two big factors in how caloric burn is determined, and the tips above will improve your heart rate accuracy.
Another thing to keep in mind is that Fitbit also computes your BMR (the calorie burn to used to maintain vital body functions), and that your BMR plays a big part in your daily caloric burn. Click here for more info.
Hope this helps you both out!
