Blaze inaccurate step count

2.1 GPS calculated miles with 2317 steps. That calculates a stride length of approximately 58 inches. It should be a little less than half of that. I would expect some inaccuracy, but this is over the top. What's up?

Welcome to the Forums @Jeannieh2os. If your tracker is not being accurate, I recommend restarting your Blaze, walk 100 steps and let me know how many your tracker registered.

Good luck!  Mine hasn't worked right since the April update.   Has yours been working thus far?

It's great to see you around @Mczech. Could you please tell me what is the issue you are having with your Blaze? If it is with your step count, I recommend following the recommendations provided in my previous post.

oh I have done all your trouble shooters. Time and time again. Steps are fine. IT DOES NOT record miles. How many screen shots do you want? I could send you one a day since April.

Hi. I'm having issues with my Blaze not tracking my steps as well. I restarted it and then walked 100 steps. It only recorded 79. I just bought it in July and it has consistently come in under my average daily steps that my old Timex Ironman Move X20 recorded.

I restarted my Blaze and counted 100 steps.  It indeed counted 100 steps although on subsequent effort it at times will come up a little short.  I can take steps and watch the step count respond appropriately, but for some reason when I am using GPS through the Fitbit App, It seems to only count about 1/2 of the steps.

There is a huge problem and they are in denial.

I've been having the same issue.  Have restarted it and done all the troubleshooting as suggested.  It's so frustrating to work hard and only get about 70% of the steps.  On average, the Blaze is crediting me with 1500 steps per mile.... as if I'm a 7'6" basketball player leaping around the neighborhood.  Geez! This morning I walked 3.3 miles according to my Garmin and another GPS device but the Blaze only tracked 3 miles and gave me 4659 steps.  I had the Fitbit GPS connected.... other walks I don't.... I've adjusted my stride length manually... changed dominant hand.... turned it on/off.... nothing fixes the problem.

I wore my old Charge HR2 on the same wrist for the same 5 mile walk the other day and it had 3000 more steps than the Blaze.  I guess I can wear them both but that would be silly..... the Blaze needs to work!

I am seeing the same thing. On a 5.4 mile walk my Blaze shows 3.7 -4.2 miles and varies from day to day. I wear the Fitbit on the same and walk the same route and it never reads the same. I can have 9200 steps one day and 7500 the next. I gave up on the Blaze and just use my phone GPS. My old Microsoft Band is much more reliable.  I restarted my Blaze and walked 100 steps. I did this multiple times and it only registered 81-85 steps each time.

@Speedyt56 om curious to what yo get when walking 200 or 500 steps.

At one time with each count my tracker was off by exactly 10 steps,  making me believe the startup from a rest period was off. Any insight with this @AlejandraFitbit?

Hello all, thanks for the information!

I would like to know if some of  you have already get in touch with our support team, have they offer you a solution for this? In the meantime, keep in mind that factors such as tracker placement, dominant or non-dominant wrist, and stride length can all affect the number of steps recorded.

I have not contacted support since I have had it over 45 days. I have done the stride length adjustment. I wear it on my non-dominant arm and have set it correctly. I normally go on a 4-5 mile walk. I began counting my steps and monitoring the Blaze. I am consistently 20-25 percent low. It seems like many people have the same issue. I could not recommend this product to anyone.

I have not yet contacted customer support, as I was hoping I could somehow fix it myself by trying everything possible.  I've done all the troubleshooting that has been advised on the site but nothing has worked. The last thing I tried was to disconnect all the apps that I had integrated - Strava, Garmin and MyFitnessPal.  I thought perhaps the data they supplied possibly messed with the Blaze calculations.  That didn't work either.

I've done 3 mile walks for the past 3 days:  Saturday, 3 miles outside (same route I always take), Blaze gives me 1275 steps per mile, only credits 1.8 miles.  Sunday, 3 miles inside on the treadmill, Blaze gives me 2500 steps per mile and credits me with the accurate mileage.  Today, 3 miles outside, Blaze gives me 1500 steps per mile.  Makes no sense at all! I'm very disappointed and frustrated.  Will be contacting customer support and hope it can be resolved.

By the way, when I wore my Charge2, it was consistently giving me around 2500 steps per mile, no problems at all.  I wish I hadn't given it to my sister when I got the Blaze!

Contacted Support - gave them all the info and they had me do some troubleshooting, some of the same stuff I've already done.  They agreed my Blaze is not accurate and are sending a replacement as it's still under warranty.  I'm very satisfied with the customer service provided and hope the new Blaze works accurately!

I am glad to hear that you will be receiving replacements devices @It_is_LO and @Speedyt56. At the moment of receiving them, you can follow these steps to set them up from your Fitbit app:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon.
  2. Tap Set Up a Device.
  3. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue.

Happy stepping! Woman Happy
