Calorie BMR estimate - too low?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

At 44kg and 138cm, my fitbit states that my BMR is 1006 kcal. Even with exercise, my total daily calories never exceed 1400kcal, according to the fitbit.

But I'm aiming to maintain my weight, and typically eat 1600-1800kcal  each day - which basically keeps me around 44kg. If I eat to the level which my fitbit states, I will lose weight (and feel ravenous).

Is there a way to reset my fitbit to get a more appropriate reading?

The total calories are based on your height / current weight..

Feel free to check out the Fitbit Article:

With logging foods, it's possible to still be hungry.. it can work for a while, though when the body senses there's a deficit over a longer time (believing there's food shortage), or needs more nutritients / energy, it asks for more by sending appetite / hunger signals..

What we can do if trying to get leaner is eating healthier foods nature provided us whenever possible until not needing more.. and getting fitter with exercising.

The body likes to defend being in a certain healthy weight / body fat range, regardless what we do.. eating in deficit.. or eating a bit more.. though if mostly being in tune with and eating when hungry, stop when having enough, it takes care of this automatically.

It's possible to eat past the point of satisfied, or eating when not hungry. The key of finding the spot where having enough is tricky, though the body knows the best if needing more.. or still having enough.. finding the balance is worth it (if wanting to trust the body instead of a food plan regarding how many calories allowed to eat in the moment though not hungry yet or being more hungry and not allowed to have anything more since it goes over the total calories allowed..)..

Wonderful you are able to maintain your weight @Lizz1155

Make sure the plan is set to maintain weight not loose weight (so there isn't a deficit).

There's a setting on the food log page (computer / fitbit.com / account) which can be changed to increase the accuracy.

Change setting on Food Log Page

On the Food Log page, standard a setting is used to base the calories allowed on personal history, when being more or less active the calories can increase or decrease alot.

Change to sedentary when desired to increase the accuracy, when being more active, the calories to eat will increase.
