Given my stats (which have not changed) if I do a certain amount of exercise in the day I can guarantee I will burn at least 4000 calories in the day. This has been the case almost every day I have exercised (4 times a week on average) for the last year. Now, suddenly, for the same amount of exercise (which is quite a lot) I'm only burning 2,500 calories in the day.
This is a MASSIVE difference. For example, I could burn 2500 calories in a day previously by doing no exercise whatsoever! It feels to me like either my FitBit is faulty or the wonks at FitBit have changed the calorie calibrations significantly without us knowing about it!

It's great to welcome you @JDAM.
The amount of calories burned is based on two factors: your basal metabolic rate (or BMR) and activity tracked by your device. For more information about this check the help article How does Fitbit estimate how many calories I've burned?. I also recommend checking your settings to see if your information is correct.
Let me know the outcome.
