Recently I have noticed that my Blaze is showing higher than normal calories burned figures. I do not wear it in bed but when I put it on this morning it was showing 1,700 calories burned! How can I reset this as this didn't happen until the last week or so? The heart rate monitor is also showing some wilder swings than normal when not doing exercise.

Welcome to the Community @joshing_manThe calorie burn you are seeing is the result of your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR). Your BMR is the rate at which you burn calories as a result of maintaining vital body functions. These functions include breathing and heartbeat and brain activity, among others. Your BMR usually accounts for at least half of the calories you burn in a day.

At the moment of creating a Fitbit profile, you entered your gender, age, height and weight. Your profile and tracker use that data to configure your daily BMR. I hope this explains the information you saw on your tracker.

@joshing_man While I would expect it to show some calories burned over night from your RMR, even if you weren't wearing it, you are correct that 1700 is actually quite a lot. Unless you weigh 400+ pounds of muscle or overnight is 16 hours for you. Have you tried restarting the Blaze by holding in the single and bottom button until the fitbit logo flashes?

No I don't weigh 400 pounds - 180 approx. Usually 6 hours of sleep (again, I am not wearing it in bed but it is next to the bed). This has only occurred over the last week or so. This morning even though I hadn't yet put it on it showed 700 or so calories and a HR of 147! How is it picking this up? I have reset it a couple of times and it has a temporary effect but something just doesn't seem right.

If it's starting to read a heart rate in the dark when you're not wearing it, this will certainly affect the calorie calculation. Working out how this happens is probably the avenue to peruse in trying to sort this problem out.

Will do - heart rate numbers all over the place. Have checked accuracy by putting fingers on neck. Causing calories burned to be far higher than reality.

Do you live in an earthquake zone?

Seriously, if the option is available on the Blaze, I suggest setting the heart rate monitor to automatic.
