Perhaps you just naturally walk more gently as it gets late, or you are more likely to be walking on soft carpet? The Blaze, as a wrist worn tracker, relies on the vibrations from your steps transferring through your body and along your arm. If this signal is too weak it won't detect a step. Also, you need to take at least half a dozen or more steps before it starts counting, so if your late evening steps are just "puttering" you may also get a lower count.
In any case, I would suggest making sure your hand setting is "non dominant" even if you wear it on the wrist of your dominant hand. This will make your Blaze more sensitive to movements and make it more likely to count your steps.
