Different miles per steps in different situations

When I use my Blaze hiking in the mountains it gives me less distance for the amount of steps  (,5 mils for 10000 steps) than if I walk around my neighborhood (>5 miles per 10000 steps). My stride is often longer in my neighborhood. I do carry my android with me but I haven't done anything to have the Blaze use my GPS. Does it do it automatically?

It's great to welcome you @serena_b. If the exercise you are going to use have the GPS option, it will connect with your phone automatically if it have the location on. If you think that your is not being accurate, I recommend restarting your Blaze, measure and update your stride length and after these steps, you can test your tracker.

Thanks so much, Alejandra! I do think it is accurate. The miles  it gives me in my neighborhood match the odometer readings.

@serena_b, unless you carry your phone with you when you hike and use Connected GPS, then you will virtually never have an accurate representation of how far you've hiked.  The same thing holds true for running, different days, different energy levels, different terrain, even different wind conditions will all alter your stride length and as such, any miles calculated from the number of steps you've taken.
