Exercise calories burned off

So I select the "Exercise" option on my Blaze and I selected "Workout" and I walked the dog for 1.2 miles and it said I burned 433 calories, however the next day I selected "Walk" and walked the same 1.2 miles with the dog and the same pace it showed 242 calories burned. The third day I selected "Walk" again and it showed 284 calories burned. Today to see if it would show different I selected the "Workout" option again for the same walk and it showed that I burned 412 calories. Why is there such a discrepancy between the two selections for the same workout?

When it comes to calories during activities, you will never get the same number of calories even if the activity was the same in the same time/distance. This is because your tracker relies on your heart rate to determine your calorie burn and this can vary all the time.

Also, your heart rate may be affected by any a number of factors at any given moment. Movement, temperature, humidity, stress level, physical body position, caffeine intake, and medication use are just a few things that can affect your heart rate. Different medical conditions and medications can impact your heart rate.

Thanks! I understand all the things that could change your heart rate.  My issue is that if I select workout instead of walk for the exercise I get completely different calories burned for the same exact exercise.  I even compared the heart rate numbers once I was completed and they are running the same for each one however the calories burned is completely different.

I believe what you are experiencing @MamaDukes0, is by design. The different exercise types have a different "intensity factor" applied to them. This is based on a concept called metabolic equivalents, which knows that running will burn more calories than walking, (even with identical heart rate data).

 

I often get more calories burned from a 30 minutes weights workout with an average heart rate of 110 than the same amount of time spent walking at an average heart rate of 125.

Work out...eat... sleep...repeat!

@MamaDukes0 without any details of the events your asking about, we can only give generalized answers. For a specific answer for you we would need to see some details to compare, screenshots of the heart rate or calories burnt for the two events would be a good place to start.

Thanks that sounds like the issue I am having and that would make sense that behind the scenes there is a different rate applied to it.
