Fitbit Blaze Bike Activity Counting Steps

After I'm done with a bike ride, I log in to find that steps have been counted. This is very disconcerting since I'm relying on that data to count my calories. So after weeks of relying on this data I've come to the sad realization that I've been overeating by hundreds of colories for weeks. I thought the biking activity was supposed to stop the step count?

The steps incurred during a bike ride are coming from the bumps in the ground.

Fitbit uses the HR, not your steps in figuring out the calories burnt during the bike mode.

I don't think that is accurate. When I ride 50 mins at 12-14mph I get 286 calories burned from cycling. However when I look at the calories burned chart for that time period, it's showing about 250 calories burned for each 15 minute time period.

I guess if that is accurate then why wouldn't it tell me I have 800 calories from cycling instead of 286 from cycling and the rest from steps, it's very confusing.
