Ive had my fitbit for a week now.
Ive never quite understood the nutrition side of things. So i bought one of these fitbits. The blaze model.
And i was shocked to see what i burning off daily, an average of 3000 calories a day. Sometimes it can reach 3300 or 3800.
Now can i trust this? I mean ive been sticking to these numbers. My goal is to build muscle. So i generally try go over by 500 calories to do so.
But instead of gaining weight or losing weight, ive lost muscle. All ive done is eat to this higher level.
keeping to the ratios i was eating before. which was around 2600 calories a day.
How accurate its the calorie burn rate?
Every website i go into and use there nutritional calculator says i should be burning around 1800-2000 as my basic BMR.

Hello @Kevinp1983 welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here. Allow me to explain how Fitbit Calculates the calories you have burned. Your basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the rate at which you burn calories at rest just to maintain vital body functions like breathing, heartbeat, and brain activity. Your BMR usually accounts for at least half of the calories you burn in a day and is estimated based on the physical data you entered when you set up your account: gender, age, height, and weight. The calorie burn estimate that Fitbit provides takes into account your BMR, the activity recorded by your tracker, and any activities you log manually.
To get a more accurate caloric calculation you will need to set up a food plan, and log all your food intake. I found this great post that will explain a little more about how the Food plan works.
Hope this helps, tag me if you have any questions!
