Fitbit blaze recording steps when I've been for a cycle

I received my blaze on Wednesday and I love it.

I use a Garmin device when I cycle and upload the stats to strava, which then transferred over to fitbit which merged the GPS info with the heart rate info collected during the cycle which is fantastic.

I left my fitbit as if when I went for a cycle so it recorded thousands of steps and flights of stairs! As Fitbit recognised that I was actually cycling at the time and merged the heart rate data with the GPS info, it would be great if it could then negate the steps and stairs recorded during the same time.

I wouldn't want to record a cycle from my fitbit at the same time as my Garmin as it would create a duplicate and drain my phone battery from using GPS. I followed the advice of the faq and recorded a driving activity during the time of my cycle to hide the steps but this deleted my cycle activity and I had to manually reenter it.

Is there a solution to this? Can you stop the fitbit from recording steps for a time or will this be resolved in a future software update?

Thanks

Hi there @Law9181. Great to see you in the Community Forums! 🙂

From what you're saying, it sounds like your tracker used SmartTrack to record your bike ride and for this reason, it will take a few minutes (whatever you have it set to in the Settings) to recognize you're on a bike ride and start counting from there and not count the previous time as steps taken...

I can recommend trying to record your bike ride from your tracker directly by swiping to the Exercise shortcuts and let that sync to Strava so that your tracker will know you're on a bike ride more accurately and this should avoid your tracker from counting steps.

Hope you find this helpful and if you need more help or any clarification, I'm here to help!
