HR Accuracy - FitBit Blaze

Hello

I have had my Blaze for a couple of weeks now - and it seems to work well and is motivating me to move etc. However, when running on a treadmill I am getting a different Heart Rate reading than holding the bars on the treadmill - usually about 10bpm different, with the treadmill reading always being higher. Not sure which is most accurate, and so which to trust.

I'm leaning toward trusting the treadmill more as I am not wearing the FitBit as instructed (higher up the wrist) as when I do and I start sweating it just slips down my wrist and take no reading at all. Does anybody know which devices reading I should trust - the FitBit or the treadmill? And any advice about how to keep the watch from slipping down my wrist?

Also, when choosing Exercise > Weights should I keep the timer running the whole time, or pause it between sets?

Last thing, my resting heart rate seems odd today - every day it has been around 60-65bpm, but today (not doing anything different to a normal day) it is at 53bpm. Is there a logical reason for this, or is there a problem with the watch?

Thanks in advance.

Hi, @MarcMCFC1986, you will almost certainly get more accurate HR readings while exercising if you wear it higher up your wrist.  The best advice I have heard for this is to buy a cheap terry sweatband and cut a little hole for the LED lights on your Blaze and then fasten your Blaze snuggly over the wristband.  That should keep it from slipping amd still give you a heartrate.  Let us know if this works for you.

As for whether to stop your timer between sets, that is really up to what works best for you, but do bear in mind that "workouts" timed for less than five minutes may not sync to your activity log.

Many people have found that their resting heart rate gradually adjusts after a few weeks of wearing their Fitbit, so your lower resting rate may be the correct one.  The best idea is to watch the trends over a period of time rather than any individual night when many factors may affect the rate detected.

I hope this helps.  Welcome to the Community!
