My heart rate monitor will sometimes monitor a heart rate when I'm not wearing it.
Other times it won't monitor my heart rate or steps when it's on.
Anyone have these issues?

Welcome to the Community Forums @ritasan! 🙂
When it comes to having your heart rate monitor set to On or Auto, On means that the heart rate monitor will be tracking at all times. Now, when you have it set to Auto, it will only record your heart rate when you move it and have it in direct contact with your skin. What this is helpful for is for your tracker not to be on all the time and for it not to pick any false heart rate data.
Having your heart rate monitor set to Auto is good for it to know that it should only pick any information while it's on your wrist so you can give that a try and see how it goes from there.

I have it in auto, but still it monitored heart rate while the Blaze was in my pocket during beach volley.
Why is that?

Mine is doing the same thing. I read some other posts and they said that they belive the monitor is trying to estimate heart rate to lessen gaps in the data. Not happy!
