Has anyone found a solution for tracking Horse riding yet?

I ride a lot and I would like to have a shortcut for it instead of having to do in manually. Currently I just set it as running or walking but I really would like it to have it's own shortcut so I can track it separately.

Horseback riding is not one of the events that are able to be preloaded on the tracker.

As with the other events with this tutus it's best to manually use the workout mode. Then after the next sync this workout may then be renamed to Horseback Riding.

This seems really silly - people have been asking for a gps / hr / length of activity tracker that doesn't add onto you steps score for over 2 years and still no solution / proper horse riding activity available to do what we would like. Yes there is a option to change workout type post logging on your phone but it doesn't then deduct your steps from your steps tracking.

how do you add horse riding as an activity at all?  i just can't see it.  really disappointing that there is no way of manually turning off the step counter and logging riding as an excise in itself.  sad.

The only solution I have been able to come up with is to either log the time as driving or pause my workout, neither of which is really accurate. While you won't wind up with too many steps, you're not getting credit for your riding workout either, which at certain levels can be considerable. I work in the equine industry (equine massage therapist) and have heard there's a device called Estride that measures both the rider's calorie count for a ride and the horse's (like a Fitbit for the animal that is worn on boots), as well as gait analysis and other metrics that are good for rehab, performance assessment, and the like. Going to check it out. At least if I have to pause my Fitbit for my ride, I'll have something to collect proper data. And of course, I'll have the info for my horse too, which is a nice plus.

Is Estride available yet, I couldn't find it?

I don't know if it's okay to post a link. But if you search by the product name with a dot store suffix, you'll find it. 🙂

I'm really surprised at how many people want their steps reduced by their ride. I just feel that what my Fitbit reads is inaccurate. I am a Reiner and the calories burned count is crazy low and the steps are inconsistent.

I found the Estride website  it's a spec. They want you to pay for it ($390 and up) and they hope they will be ready for shipping this December.

Yes I found them and spoke to the guy who is developing it. Really interesting chap. They are in production now and will have a stand at the Olympia Horse show selling the devices.

Hey all, it's great to see you here!

I know that it would be great to have more exercises in the shortcuts option. I recommend taking a look at the Custom Exercise Shortcut request, vote for it and leave your comment. In the meantime, please keep logging your exercises manually.

The Estride looks interesting, an exercise traker for your horse. Their claims probably are realistic too.

@Mrsreinmaker i think the reason some want steps not counted during riding a horse, bike, car, moped, atv, etc is simply because they are not walking are running and consider these steps as cheating.

As for steps while riding, these come from the movement of the horse, car, atv, etc, and the rider, not the movement of the persons feet. That is their contention with those that feel all exercises must be counted in steps.

What does all his mean? I have not bothered commenting to Fitbit since got stupid automatic replies to my questions.

I can certainly look at shortcuts, though have not a clue what they are or what you suggest I vote for!

All I want to do is TURN OFF the step counter while I am riding so the HORSE'S STEPs do not count as mine. Only way to do this seems to be to take the watch off! I have tried starting an exercise and pausing it but the steps just keep on being counted

Is it so difficult to have a manual 'stop counting steps' setting???
