How can I log stationary bike?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So I called Fitbit today to ask how to sync bike mode between tracker and app when the Fitbit owner is riding a stationary bike. What I got was a half hour of convolution that would please Donald Trump.

That said, has anyone an idea of how to make this work in a seamless fashion that can be explained in a tweet? Because a tweet is about all the attention I have for this stuff. Seriously though, this should not be that complex. It should be a simple "If this, then that" explanation that might go beyond to a sequential set of steps that should be about 5 lines of text, and never more than 10 lines.

If it is more than 10 lines then let's just go back to smoke signals.

A warm welcome to the Community @TacJack.

If you want to log your stationary bike exercise, you can use the "Spinning" mode on your Blaze. If you don't have this workout added, you can add it by following the instructions in the help article How do I customize the exercises on my Fitbit device?, or you can also manually log the activity.

If you need anything else, let me know. Robot Happy

I am not sure the solution works.  I have a Charge 4 and have tried the “spinning” mode.  It is fine to track heart rate — but so is no mode at all.  It does not track steps.

I ride on a stationary bike over a hundred miles each week (more when the weather is bad and I can’t ride outside) and the only thing that gives me any kind of tracking is to attach the Charge 4 to my shoe.  It isn’t exact since the device is counting “steps” but at least there is tracking.  The problem is that the other workout features (target zone, heart rate) are worthless.

My wife wears her Charge 4 on her wrist as usual and her Fitbit One on her shoelace when on the treadmill and is able to track steps and heart rate.  The One and Zip are hard to find and I haven’t been able to use my Charge 4 and Charge 3 at the same time so this workaround is likely possible only if you have an older device.

I would be delighted to hear Fitbit has a way for the top of the line devices to be used to track steps and heart rate on stationary cardio machines but I haven’t seen anything that indicates they can.

@Kerrydon44 I don't think Fitbit's goal is to help you get more "cheater" steps. Sitting on your arse peddling is not stepping. Whether it be indoors or out. Although outdoors with bumps. You get more "false" steps. Spinning is fine for most I've seen posting on the forums for stationary cycling. If you really want fake steps while cycling,  just swing your arm.

I suspect all of us who have the same question value your exercise philosophy. 🙄

Yes, I agree there are others who want the fake step  as well. However, you're posting in an over 2 year old thread about using connected GPS on a stationary bike.

You seriously think you should get earned steps cycling? I ride outdoors over 100 miles a week and really,  it'd be hilarious if revolutions of the crank counted as steps every time. Fake fake fake.

What a rich, full life you must have to troll Fitbit threads re topics that obviously don’t apply to your preferred exercise routine.

@Kerrydon44Sorry if I presented my opinion in an offensive manor. I think perhaps a break from the forums could be good for me. Have a nice day!

I live in an environment at this time that does not afford me the ability to ride outside. I still need and want to get me exercise in. I came here to find an answer or alternative solution to help me track my indoor stationary riding. Your replies to Kerrydon44 are not helpful. If you have knowledge of the forum, maybe a suggestion to someone that might have useful information would be nice. Your opinion is not requested nor appreciated.

By chance have you found a solution to your stationary riding and tracking? I am in a similar need. I have a Charge 4 also.

Hi!

Firstly I know this thread is a few years old, but I had this issue today too and now I came here to share how I solved this in case anyone else needs help. I have a Fitbit versa and an iPhone, so I’m not sure if this will work for everyone depending on what you have.

  1. Go to the Fitbit app on your phone.
  2. Tap on your profile photo in the top right corner
  3. Tap on your device (eg ‘Versa’)
  4. Scroll down until you see ‘exercise shortcuts’
  5. If you already have 7 exercises listed on this shortcuts list and one of them is not ‘spinning’, you will need to delete one of these exercises by tapping on ‘edit’ in the top right corner.
  6. Once you’ve deleted an exercise, tap on ‘+ exercise shortcut’ and select ‘SPINNING’ and then tap on ‘done’.
  7. All done. Just sync your Fitbit and ‘spinning’ should now appear on your Fitbit watch when you tap on the exercise icon.

Hope this helps.
