Nothing wrong with your device
The calories burned are BMR calories. Your fitbit also calculates calories burned for your BMR. You burn calories just by being alive! Even Sleeping. Fitbit includes these burned calories in it's calorie calculations, so even if you did not wear the fitbit, you'll still burn these calories.

Makes to sense to be over 2K calories at rest by 1PM (from sleeping and sitting at work). I've had this device for nearly 1 year so i know by 8PM after the gym im around 3K calories. (the next day) It is 12:00PM and im at 1.1K which is right.
My original question, how to reset the calories on it. I had to reset the tracker and it went from 800 Cal to 2K due to the reset.

The Fitbit calorie count reset is terrible. I’ve googled and see it is about the BMI. This is no help to me. I want to be able to rest it and go to the gym and look to see my calories burned during that time only! THE reason I wanted it. Not happy. Have read other posts by others with similar thoughts. Why would this not be an option?

You can track your calories that you burn while working out. You just have to go to work outs. Hit what kind of work out you’re doing. Then hit finish, it’ll show a summary as to how many calories you burned during your work out. Plus why wouldn’t you want to know how many calories you burn all together? If you don’t want to know what you burn when you’re not working out then just don’t wear it outside the gym. Problem solved

You just tell it what kind of workout you are doing, and it'll tell you exactly for that amount of time only. I don't think they could have made this easier or better than they did.

Err yes they could have, by giving an option not to include natural calories burnt. Simple.

Haha no, you just don't know how to use the watch. As you're about to start working out, actually USE the watch you paid good money for and select the workout type you're about to do.
This will initiate a super accurate reading until you stop and it will show you ONLY the calories you burn during that workout, as well as your heart rate and heart rate zone. It will also show a timer you use to messure time between sets...
Stop it when you're done and you have that data forever in the app for that workout. They LITERALLY could not have made it any better except by adding a custom interval timer into the workout.
If you don't want to know your overall daily calorie burn than stay the hell away from the gym, you're doing it wrong or kidding yourself. The nutrition part too most likely.

@Lovelight22 When you set your account up, fitbit will estimate your calories burned even at rest. You burn calories as long as you're alive. Only time you'll ever see 0 calories is at midnight.
