IOS Notification trouble

I have had my Blaze for a few days now and haven't been able to use notifications or music controlls.  I have an iPhone 5 running IOS 7.1.2 and version 8.102.7 of the Fitbit App.

I was able to get my phone to pair with my Blaze with bluetooth and it does appear in the device list in my settings.  Both the phone and the Blaze indicate that they have a  bluetooth connection, but when I click on Notifications in the app and Press the Set-Up button I recieve a message that "Bluetooth Pairing Failed".  I have also been unable to use music controlls.  Songs that are playing on the phone appear on the Blaze, but pressing the buttons has no effect.

I have restarted both devices, and switched bluetooth on and off to force them to connect.  I haven't been able to find anything indicating that I needed a specific version of IOS to make this work, but I would like to avoid updating if I can help it for stability concerns.  I am able to synch my activity with my phone, so I know they can at least talk to each other.

Any help would be appreciated.

@Hersch Like my buddy @dmason508 mentioned above, your difficulties me be a result of an older operating system; the newer versions of Fitbit application are optimized for usage on new iOS operating systems, so I think you might have better luck with more recent versions.

I got it all working on iOS 9.3, my guess would be you need to upgrade your iOS.

Seems like you tried the typical steps. You can try to unpair everything, restart all, then re-pair everything...if you havent already.

I bit the bullet and updated my phone to access newer apps.  Thankfully the update has gone smoothly and have experience none of the problems that I have heard can occur with my model.

Since I updated I was able to download the most recent version of the FitBit App and now notifications, GPS tracking, and music controlls all work.  I just wish this dependance on the version of my operating system had been documented.  It may have saved me some time when I was setting things up.
