Inaccurate Step Count

I have had my Blaze for several months and I really like it. This is my 5th fitbit and that is a testiment to the fact that these things are not very well made. If you have one that lasts for more than a year it is rare. Anyway, back to my Blaze... I've tested mine by walking emphatically for exactly150 steps. Concrete side walk, running shoes, arm movements -  the whole shear. Then I check my step count. 125. I somehow lost 25 steps! If I check my display and see that it is 5250, for example, and I begin walking, it will stay at that count for over 30 steps then jump ahead by 6 steps and begin counting. The jump is always 6 steps! I've seen this happen dozens of times. I have no idea what is going on, but it's pretty obvious that my beloved Blaze (as much as I like it) is not accurately counting steps. Anyone having similar experiences?

Hi there @RichardWinwood. Good to see you in the Community! 🙂

Have you tried to restart your tracker by any chance?

You can do this by pressing and holding the left and lower right buttons for 10-12 seconds.  This will make your tracker to reboot and after that, try it out and see if it's more accurate.

Let me know how it goes!

@RichardWinwood the jump of 6 steps is what you should be seeing, your Fitbit waits till it sees 5 consecutive step loke motions before it decides that the ussr is actually moving. Then on the 6th step it starts counting.

My experience with the Blaze has been that within the first 100 steps I lose 20~25, but if I continue walking to 500 or 1000 steps, at the most I'm of is by 30.

Now if I start walking 25 -30 steps, start the exercise tracker, my step count is usually within 5.

Hello,

I purchased a Fitbit Blaze last week (around 8//21/17).  I got it set up and synchronized on 8/23/17, and have been using it ever since.

Yesterday (8/27/17), I noticed that the number of steps that were being displayed on the Blaze was inaccurate.  I was showing about 2,500 steps on the Blaze, and when I synched the Blaze with my laptop, the laptop app registered about 4,500 steps.  I wanted to reach my daily goal of 10,000 steps, so I went for a walk for about 90 minutes or so.  The blaze showed an increase of about 250 steps, but when I again synched the Blaze with my laptop, the laptop app showed 9,600 steps total for the day.  I was able to reach my 10,000 step goal for the day, by taking an additional quick walk.

This morning, I woke up, and synched the Blaze to my laptop in order to check my sleep.  The Blaze had registered about 320 steps during the night, between 9 PM and 4 AM.  I am pretty sure that I do not sleepwalk.

I did several consecutive restarts on the Blaze, followed by several consecutive power-downs and restarts.  I do not believe that these actions have resolved the issue.

Is there anything else I can do, short of returning the Blaze, in order to resolve this issue?  I am not interested in waiting for some sort of "update" that may or may not fix this problem.

Please let me know.

Thanks,

Rick

Hi there @Rick5955. Welcome to the Fitbit Community Forums! 🙂

I'm very sorry you're having problems with the steps on your Blaze not showing up correctly.

Thanks a lot for taking the time to restart your tracker... Since that didn't work, I can probably suggest setting it up as a new device. Hopefully, this will help anything that is not working good to work properly after the process is completed.

For this, go to the Account section at the top right corner on the Fitbit app and select the option that says "Set up a new device". Follow the on-screen instructions and once you're done, your tracker should be syncing without a problem and the steps on both, your tracker and your dashboard should be the same.

Let me know how it goes and if you need more help, I'll be happy to give you a hand!
