I had a Surge and I couldn't ever wear it out in the sun. Even short walks to lunch in the sun and it would turn off as I assumed it was overheating. Even partly cloudly 80 degree days were too much for my Surge. Eventually I just put it in a drawer and stopped wearing it and went back to my Flex. Now that my Flex battery is dead I'm looking for something new.
Is the Blaze better at not overheating? Can I expect to be able to walk a half mile to lunch and have it work the entire time?

Yeah, I'm not in the desert. I'm in Texas so it does get warm, and I would understand it not working in 100+ midday sun but this is anytime I go outside in the sun. Even before it gets hot out.

Sounds like it.
But is it safe to assume that the Blaze will work the same or better than the Surge? I should be ok in <100 degree weather?
EDIT: Because I really don't want the Surge anymore anyway. Way too many comments about how ugly and or dorky looking it is. I do miss the ability to track stairs though. Otherwise I'd go with an Alta.

First thought would be to go to the Fitbit store and check.
Environmental Requirements
My second thought would be if you ppurchase it directly from Fitbit there is a 45 satisfaction warranty. See link below.
Another thought is that most brick bassed stores have a 2 week, maby more return policy.

I'm headed to Best Buy after work today. So i can try on a Blaze. Check for comfort and looks. I'll ask them about the return policy.

I'll report back on performance once I get mine. Hopefully Best Buy has them in stock tonight. 🙂

I did pick up a Blaze last night. My first walk out in the sunshine today was succesful. It staying working the entire time. It was only 80 degrees today so not that great a test, but 80 was enough to overheat my Surge. I left it setting in the sun trying to heat it up and it did continue to work. So i'm happy. Time will tell if it can survive the Texas summer sun, but it's working now.
On an unrelated note. This is much more comfortable than the Surge. The Surge is like wearing a brick strapped to your wrist. The Blaze feels more like a watch and the band is thin and comfortable. 🙂
