Music control and Notifications are not working

Surely I am doing something wrong here...

Music Controls:  I followed the directions provided.... Turned Bluetooth settings on my phone ON and set my Blaze as the paired device.  I set the Bluetooth Classic setting on my Blaze to 'pair' (although I notice that the setting isn't holding over time - it reverts back to 'off' for some reason). On my phone, I started a music app (Pandora or iHeartRadio) to play a song.  On my Blaze, I started an exercise session, and then pulled up the Music Controls screen on the Blaze and it says it's not connected. My Blaze is syncing properly, and I was able to get the GPS piece working fine.  I have already rebooted my phone, but have not rebooted my Blaze (couldn't find the instructions for that).  Not sure what else to try.

Notifications: I have Messaging set as the default message app in my phone settings. In the Fitbit app on my phone, I have 'Messaging' set as my Text Notifications option. Both my phone and my Blaze say that Notifications are on, but when I send a test text message to myself, it doesn't come through on my Blaze. Bluetooth is on.

Note:  I do not have the 'All Day sync' option currently turned on in the Fitbit app, but it appears that it is trying to sync very frequently anyway.... even when I am not clicking the 'sync now' button.

I'm sure I must be doing something wrong with all of this?

Thank you for any insight!

I have the LG G3 and notifications worked with no issues. Steps to enable the notifications were very clear and easy to find.

The issue I ran into was that the music controls did not work for me. However, I found this post and others that suggested that the Blaze and the phone should both be powered off and back on after enabling and syncing the devices per the instructions. I did this and both the built in music app and Amazon Music work well and show me artist and title information. I also tested with my Samsung Gear Circle bluetooth headphones connected as well and have no issues.

Rich,

Thank you!  That worked for the Music Controls :-).  Not sure my Notifications are working correctly yet, even though they say they are on.   FYI, I have an LG G2 Android OS phone.

I have an LG G2 Android phone. I did the reboot of the Blaze and unpaired/repaired the tracker and that worked for the music controls.  Not sure that the notifications are working correctly though.  I sent myself a test text message and did not receive it on the Blaze.

@DeborahS Welcome to the Community! I'm glad to hear that your music control is working. Thanks to @Rich_Laue :).

I would like you to try this troubleshooting  to get your call notifications working. Are you not getting the notifications while you're using music control? If you're using both things there may be an interference between your music and notifications.

Keep me posted.

My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. When I initially connected my fitbit blaze it said it needed to down load an update to the Blaze that could take 10 min.  Finally it failed.  However  the blaze works and tracks, but text and phone call notifications do not work at all.  I've tried all of the suggestions like restart. Turnot off Bluetooth turn it back on. I did notice under Bluetooth on my phone it shows the blaze connected as classic and as an input devise. How do I get notifications to work??

@Jlroesler A warm welcome to the Community! Thanks for the troubleshoot. Currently, Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge isn't in the list of supported devices. I believe that's the reason why the notifications aren't working.

Please keep an eye on the list because Fitbit is always updating it.

Thank you for your understanding.

I guess I'll need to return the blaze. I need notifications.

@SilvaFitbit I did get notifications to work on my Blaze connected to my Samsung S7. I found the solution on another blog. The issue is that notifications are turned off by default in the Fitbit app, for the Blaze device. You have to go into Devices menu. Chose call and text notifications. Then enable the notification widget. Then individually turn on Call, Text and Calendar notifications. They should be set as on by default. I've seen many blogs and with confusion on why notifications won't work. Many users are just returning these to the store.....assuming it's a bug. Most users assume that notifications will work. If they don't want them they can figure out how to turn them off if needed.

All the rebooting and turning off BT and trying again is getting people frustrated. One guy said he and is daughter had been trying different things for days till the figured out how to turn the notifications on from inside the Fitbit app under devices and Blaze. Very deep in the menus and not intuitive.

@Jlroesler That's great to hear! Thanks for sharing what you did to get the notifications working on your Blaze. As I mentioned Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge isn't in the list of supported devices, so I can't confirm it will sync all the time just because it's not on the list yet.

Thank you so much for your feedback, Fitbit is always working to improve things in the Dashboard and app.

In case you have any idea you may want to post it in our Ideas Board because those suggestions are viewed by our engineers and developers and the best of this is that people can vote for them.

@Sameerg A warm welcome to the Community! Thanks for checking the supported devices. The reason why it may not be working at all it's because it's not listed as a supported device as you already mentioned. So, even if Google Play music supports avrcp that may be.

That's also why the notifications aren't working with your Fitibit Blaze.

Thanks for your understanding!
