New Blaze Update - Major Lag + steps not counting

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've read some posts and seeing similar symptoms. Hopefully more peopel can reply to this with the issue and if enough people post, the developers might be able to revert this particular change?

I did the new firmware update yesterday and i've noticed that the blaze has a major lag now when it comes to counting steps - during this lag is doesn't count some of my steps.

I've noticed that when I'm moving and the steps starts counting it's usually fine. It's only when i start walking while stationary that it doesn't kick in until after about 20 steps. I know there is a lag (now) so it does "catch up" but it still misses every maybe 7th step?

I have shut down the device and turned it back on but it still does the issue. Sadly firmware can't be reverted

Hi there @dudalemon. I'm glad to see you in the Community!

I've really not seen many other users having a similar problem after the firmware update. I have recently updated mine as well but haven't noticed something like this.

You did the right thing  by restarting your tracker but if you still notice this to be an inconvenient, I'd suggest getting in touch with the Support Team for them to take a closer look and help you out and get you back on track.

Keep an eye on the forums as well for any update on this matter and if you need anything else, let me know and I'll be glad to help.

Same thing with the steps is happening with me as well. I've also read about it happening to several other people. I've also noticed that "connected GPS" doesn't stay connected since the firmware "update".

I'm having the same issue since I last updated.  My step count is about 1/2 of what it should be if not more.  I would like to know how to fix this issue.

After a month or so of serious hints, I received the Blaze as an early Mother's Day gift and I am very disappointed to say that I am also having issues with a serious lag in the step counting. Unfortunately, I have nothing to compare it to since I was immediately forced to do an update right out of the box which was supposed to take 10 minutes but ended up being 30.  I will give it a day or so before I, sheepishly, ask for its return.

Hi @dthom. Welcome to the Community Forums!

For you and everyone else having this problem, please try to restart your trackers a couple of times by pressing the left and lower right buttons for 10-15 seconds and then your trackers should turn off and back on.

After this, try to do a step accuracy test. This can be done by looking at the number of steps on your tracker. Walking 100 steps but just counting them in your head and once you've finished, to compare the with your tracker to see how accurate it was.

Please try that and let me know how it goes. Good luck! 🙂

@FerninandFitbit Tried that and other things several times. Results are all the same.

Not counting the first 50 to 60 steps after a period of non movement. Not counting steps during a workout and having to stop for a period time. Like to wait for a light to cross the street. And just stops counting step randomly during a long walk. By my calculations, only 3/4 to 7/8 ofof my steps for the day are being tracked. That's 5000 to 7000 missing steps.

I restarted mine and then did 2 tests doing 100 steps.

First test: It was off by 12 steps

Second test: It was off by 10 steps.

Not a big deal at all.

But my concern with the blaze is that the screen lags sometimes, or it becomes unresponsive to touches. Again...not that big of a deal, but being a $280 product, that's unnaceptable.

Keep it moving, one step at a time.

Hey Ferdin,

I noticed you said you have a blaze too. I can help you attempt to recreate the issue so you know where we are coming from. I've noticed the lag only happens when you raise your wrist so;

>Go for a continuous walk in a straight line,

> As you are walking raise your wrist and look at the step count,

>THEN stop walking for about 1-2 seconds.
> Put your wrist back down and start walking again for about 5-10 steps
> raise your wrist again and you will see the 5-10 steps did not count.

Just a quick thought, allfitbits are designed to ignore a step count of less the 5 steps in a row. Pause - walk 5 steps - pause you might not see any steps counted. Now walking 10 steps - pause, should give you ten steps, since there was more than the minimum steps counted. This logic is there to help weed out false steps.

Now if the Blaze is indeed missing steps, this is something  that is being looked into by Fitbit, and only say 4 - 5 of the ten walked then i can see why steps are not counted.

Already thought of that. Previously this wasn't an issue now it is.

I have to say...... This has been a very disappointing product so far; it's not worth the money.  I'm losing steps and floor counts.  Yesterday I had both the Blaze and HR on opposite wrists.  The HR recorded 1/4 to 1/2 more steps than the Blaze that lagged far behind.  Once an hour I walk around the outside of my office building.  With the Charge HR, it recorded the trip to be 850 steps.  This is the second day I've had the Blaze.  One trip was recorded at 527 steps and another recorded at 312 steps for the exact same walk.  Don't get me started on the floors.  I climbed 27 floors today and only 19 were recorded.  I reset the watch a million times and no change.  I called customer service and their answer was to return the watch and get a new one.  I stated it was not "the" watch but their software as numerous people are having this problem.  Customer service stated they were not aware of this problem which upset me even more.  I'm sooooooooo disappointed and truly feel this is horrible product. I wish I didn't give me HR away.  You know what they said, "all that glitters ain't gold" and I definitely feel that way about the Blaze.

At least y'all have the update already. I've been checking everyday for the update to come to my Blaze and I still haven't gotten it. Any ideas as to why I haven't recieved the update yet? and what I can do to get the update faster?
