New to Fitbit, 2 Questions

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

1) About 20% of my work day is pushing or pulling carts so my hands are stationary.  How will this affect the steps measured by the Blaze?

2)  I looked at the Blaze to see how many steps I did in a particular day and it gave me a reading that was higher than the reading in the app on my phone.  When I looked back at the Blaze, the reading on that was adjusted to match the lower reading on the app.  Any insite why would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Andy

With the Blaze on your wrist, a stationary wrist will mean a 0 step count as you might expect since it can't count movements it doesn't see.

Without knowing where your phone app got the steps from, it's near impossible to form a theory on quite what's happening there. Sorry.

Hello @ANoff welcome to the Fitbit Community! It's great to have you here 🙂  Your tracker counts your steps when you are pushing a stroller or a shopping cart, but because your hands are not moving your step count may be lower than usual during this activity. Regarding your second issue just to confirm, when you mention the app on your phone do you mean the Fitbit app? If it is, then can you please let me know where are you seeing the lower reading you mentioned?  @MikeF thanks for your cooperation! 😉

Anoff, it depends on what kind of surface you push and pull on.  I know Andela and ther other comment say that a stationary wrist = 0 steps, but I will add that if a vibration is felt while pushing something it will count steps.  2 perfect examples for you, first.....pushing my lawnmower (not self propelled) my steps are counted and my hand never leaves the handle. Second.....pushing my 2 year old's cart with the long fixed handle counts steps when i push on sidewalks, again, I have to assume it is because of the vibration felt.

When I push a cart in a grocery store, no steps, but the exact same holding positing and same push with a lawnmower counts steps 100% of the time for me.

SO if you are ona  smooth surface your steps will definitely not count.  If you are outside they might possibly count.  Hope this helps.
