The Fitbit Blaze is getting an update. Fitbit announced on Monday that its fitness smartwatch will soon receive an update that enables third-party notifications and other new features.

The Blaze, which costs $230 in the US (£179 in the UK and AU$370 in Australia), was released earlier this year. The watch can track steps, distance, calories burned, active minutes and sleep. It was also the first Fitbit that could display incoming calls, text messages and calendar alerts when connected to an iPhone orAndroid phone.

Users will soon be able to view notifications from Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Gmail and other third-party apps. The update will also add five new watch faces to the Blaze, which brings the total to nine, and a new move reminder feature.

The feature was previously found in the Fitbit Alta and is included on the new Charge 2and Flex 2. Rather than a basic "stand" or "move" reminder, the Blaze will now encourage users to meet a mini-step goal of 250 steps each hour. If the goal hasn't been reached 10 minutes prior to the top of the hour, the watch will gently vibrate to remind you to get up and go.

The update will begin rolling out to Blaze owners later this week.

@racertempo charging every day is just about where I'm at with the Blaze anyway and I don't even track my sleep with it because of that. My polar got almost 3 weeks before I had to charge it even tracking my sleep.

@KiloLima64 have you contacted fitbit yet? They can look at the back end and give recommendations, the battery should be lasting 4+ days.

Ginger, I don't agree with RacerTempo's general stance but what I do agree with on is this; take it back if you're not happy with it.

Your comment is fair. They advertised something and you bought that thing based on the advertising. It might come in three weeks time and it might suit your needs but it could be longer and at that point you won't be able to return it unless you can prove it has a fault. I wouldn't buy anything based on a statement about what is to come, especially in the software industry.

It's a win/win for you. If they don't release the update, or it's not as planned, you've got your money back. When they do release that update there is nothing stopping you from buying another one. In the meantime they have to cover the restocking fee as a punishment for advertising something they had not yet delivered on. Hopefully the lesson will be that they get their communication better in future.

That is what I said to start, and Fitbit moderators came on and gave you the answer you (Ginger) needed, but you did not like that it was not an exact date.  However, Fitbit gave you all they know, and your next 8 posts have been how bad Fitbit is for not giving an exact date like Apple does.....which is why I have repeatedly said just take it back.

The thread is about the firmware upcoming, and Fitbit gave all they know about that (yes it is not exact), but continue to bash them for not giving an exact date is not going to get you any extra data.  It is what it is right now.

If I were in your shoes, I would 100% take it back on the last day of the return policy (if the update was not out), not sure where you bought it but I know Best Buy is 15 days.   I would do that because I don't trust that it will come out in September, I sure hope it does, but I'll believe it when I see it.  Ginger, you don't want the product without the update, so if you are close to your return window take it back for sure.  If you have 30 days to return it then you might be alright.

Hi @Revlee - Fitbit is rolling out the update in waves. Not everyone has the update yet. It will be completed over the next few days.

Sadly, a moderator said that it was accidentially rolled out to 100% of users and they were rolling it back (not sure how that works) to only 5%.  The initial release said it would be rolled out over a couple of days, but they messed that up with the press of a button.  Mine did the update, and I have a new face on there now, but if I go back I can only choose from the 4 original faces.  Looks like you might have to wait a little longer.

Mine updated.. I changed the clock face and now in the app I can't see any clock faces.. So I hope I like the one I have because I can't switch it.

It clearly says in the app that I have the new firmware

I asked about this in another thread as I also have a clock face that is "not showing" for me in the app.   Matthew (moderator) stated that they were rolling back the updates, but everything else seems to be working from the udpate, got an email notificaiton and the reminder to move partly worked.  At least it is out.....but now these boards are going to LIGHT UP with angry people for the next 2 -3 days.  Only a matter of time until people start throwing out , "apple woule never make this mistake".

Just wanted to mention, that back on 9/8 I said it is better off waiting on the deployment so they get it right... Now there are lots of posts about issues with the update..

I have the same thing happening with the clock face. I'm now stuck with the one I chose for now. Also the move reminders aren't correctly synced.

@BForiest_93 i suggest going to the Blaze forum, the top thread is about the update and Andrew has been very good at keeping us informed there.

First readvthevtop post, then skin through the last few pages for any informal updates.
