Hi, I have a Blaze and I am wondering how to count my steps while pushing a shopping cart or carrying things in my arms. I would like to have an accurate count but when I walk all around Costco and no steps have been recorded it is rather annoying. Thanks

Hi @lwillard -- You will see a lot of posts on this issue. When you have your "Blaze hand" on the cart it masks your footfalls and your Blaze will miss steps. Many people try to get around this by trying to keep the Blaze hand free while pushing the cart/stroller with the other hand. That's just too much trouble for me. Over the course of a day, missed steps tend to average out with the "bonus" steps you might get if you talk with your hands, or clap or whatever. In the end, I think fitbits are more about trending up your activity (increase your steps by 5-10%/day until you get to your goal number (maybe 10-20K/day)).

Thanks Baltoscott! I don't think I could push a Costco cart with one hand.. those carts are huge but I will try with it in my pocket to see if it logs any of the steps where it had not previously! Thanks for replying!

Definitely try it in your pocket, I lose 2000-3000 steps in Costco with the wrist based Fitbits which is a big deal on low step count days, or when I'm in a challenge. I use Fitbit MobileTrack on my phone to count steps, which does a great job at accurately counting steps because its in my pocket and doesn't get confused like wrist worn trackers. I get plenty of non-step based exercise (biking, swimming, weights), and don't care about trending steps up.
