I have stopped receiving notifications on my Fitbit blaze.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app.
i have uninstalled the app notifications and reinstalled them.
My Iphone5 and Fitbit are updated to the latest versions.

I have done some more fiddling.
Now I sometimes get calls, but my watch just vibrates, doesn't light up.
i now only seen to get Facebook messages and not WhatsApp or text messages.
my phone is always next to me.

Hey there @Fizzwizz, welcome to the Forums!
Thanks for troubleshooting this by yourself. If your tracker isn't receiving notifications, I recommend following the instructions provided in the My Tracker isn't receiving notifications (iOS Fitbit app) post. Keep in mind that if you have the quick view on, you need to raise your hand in order to see your notifications but if you have turned off this feature, you need to press the home button in order to see the notifications.
