Hi,
loving my blaze but looking online Pure Pulse measures HR rates every 5 seconds (1 during workouts). But when checking the app, HR rate is recorded every 5 mins.
Any ideas why it measures every 5 seconds and records every 5 mins?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, @honglong1976, it samples every 5 or 1 second and gives you an average over 5 minutes. Otherwise the graphs would be very awkward to read, especially on a phone or tablet.

It would be nice to have the option. I use an app called TrainingPeaks and it shows 1 second sampled heart rate data on my iPhone. There is even a slider to go from sampled to averaged data, particularly useful when looking at Power-to-HR trends (a key fitness metric for cyclists).
Its not awkward to read as you can zoom and scroll and move the cursor with your finger. Here is a screenshot showing a 2 minute sprint from a ride last night. I came to a stop at a light - HR declining at beginning - then started sprinting at 25mph thru a downtown area, and in middle another HR decline as I had to slow for an SUV that braked down to 17mph at the railroad tracks:

I agree! It seems a bit pointless taking a reading to only show an average every 5 mins? It may as well just take a reading every 5 mins. Which would surely save battery life.
I am starting to think that fitbit does actually just take a reading every 5 mins (instead of 5 seconds). Great marketing but no actual proof it takes a reading every 5 seconds.

If you watch the heart icon on your dashboard, it does change quite frequently, so I don't believe it only samples every 5 minutes.

@spikey_richie, you are correct. When it is not in exercise mode it samples every 5 seconds. However the graph that is saved to your dashboard shows a 5 minute average of those samples.

@honglong1976 Try logging a manual workout for say 10 minutes, I believe you will then be able to see 5 second detail.
