Steps While Biking

I for one wish i could get a step count while biking with my Blaze, and may have a solution to this.

I picked up a fitbit Zip and noticed that I can use them both at the same time, and they will stay in sync with eachother for step counts. I did a couple tests where I walked while wearing both and noticed that even if the step count was not exactly the same, they would both sync up after a few minutes, and the step counts would match eachother again.

I was also concerned that it would total the steps reported by both devices, but that is not the case (and that would be cheating). I also did a test where I used the Walk app on the Blaze and just had the Zip clipped to my pocket and it also worked the same way and synced the steps correctly.

This is making me think that I can use the Blaze to record a Bike workout, and clip the Zip to my pocket to count steps and add those steps to my total steps.

Has anyone tried anything like this yet?

Thoughts?

Hi there @bcalvanese. Good to see you around!

At the moment, cycling will not give you steps as you don't really take any steps while on the bike. This is why the activity -if you use MobileRun on your phone- will give you distance, heart rate, calories  burned and active minutes as this is more a workout session rather than a walking/running/hiking session.

It's better not to use two trackers at the same time. If you do it, Fitbit will do its best to reconcile the overlapping data to present the most accurate information possible on your dashboard. However, the more overlapping data that exists on your account, the more likely it is that your dashboard's accuracy will suffer.

For best results, do not wear more than one tracker at a time and sync each tracker before taking it off and putting on another.

Hope this helps! 🙂
