This was happening to me also and I did exactly what our friend here recommended. Once you tap the forget option on your bluetooth settings the trackers around you won't receive your texts messages and your tracker won't be receiving theirs.

It sounds like you never un-bonded the tracker you gave to your family member.
When it was hooked up to their account it was removed from yours, but you still need to remove it from your phone. Open the Bluetooth settings and tell your phone to forget the tracker.
