VO2 calculation

Hi all, I was just wondering about the VO2 score and resting HR generated by Fitbit! Can anyone tell me how charging the product will affect the averages? E.g does the Fitbit know it’s charging and therefore calculate the averages without the gap period. If I am working out sometimes the HR stops working, so I assume averages are calculated on the data that is collected only?

Thanks,

Nick

Hi there @Nickarnott87. Great to see you in the Fitbit Community Forums! 🙂

You're right, your VO2 score is calculated based on your heart rate, so this means that for the gaps where you're not wearing your tracker, no heart rate information should be recorded and you should get a pretty accurate VO2 calculation.

For better results and to avoid your tracker picking false HR data, I'd recommend going to the last screen on your Blaze, tap on Settings, scroll to Heart Rate and set it to Auto, that way, when you're not wearing it, it will not track anything at all and the calculation should be even more precise and therefore, when you're charging it, no HR data should be recorded.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need anything else!

Thanks @FerdinandFitbit! Nice to meet you and thanks for the reply 🙂

RE: HR data - that’s what I thought, so if for example my Fitbit stops collecting HR data while I’m working out, sometimes I sweat a lot and it stops picking up the HR, or, for example it’s on charge and I have missed an hour or two of resting heart rate data, then it could definitely screw my VO2 score!?

I have noticed if I have a night drinking with friends it really screws my VO2 data because my HR increases by about 10 bpm when I sleep so in turn my resting heart rate increases a lot!

I guess the point is to wear the Fitbit as much as possible else I could be losing valuable data that contributes to my VO2 score! I guess it works both ways though. If I took my Fitbit off after getting on the beers and didn’t put it back on til the next day when my heart rate was back to normal, my VO2 and RHR wouldn’t change!

Great to have you back @Nickarnott87! 😄

You're right... the point here is for you to wear your tracker the most you can to get a more accurate picture of your overall activity but if you take it off for a while or if you drink sometimes, this will not cause a huge impact and mess your VO2, now, if this becomes a habit and you take it off frequently, in that case, it will mess up your VO2 readings. I'm pretty sure you'll be wearing it constantly so, I don't think you should worry about that.

Any other doubt you may have, I'm here! 🙂
