Every couple of days I find black bits on my arm that seem to be coming from band. Is it degrading?

Sad to hear that you're having issues wearing your Charge 5. Assuming that you're using a genuine Fitbit band with your Charge 5, this shouldn't happen with proper care. Please have a closer look here for more details:
