Suddenly my Charge 5 won't hold a charge for even an entire day. I've charged it to 109% TWICE today.  What the heck!@

Hi, welcome to the Fitbit Community forums, @Picard321.

I appreciate all this information that you've shared about the inconvenience that you've been having with your Charge 5.

Before considering other options, please make sure that you've followed the steps provided in this articleIn addition, try to perform a restart following the steps listed here below, this has been useful for other users experiencing something similar:

  1. Connect your device to the charging cable. For instructions, see How do I charge my Fitbit device?
  2. Press the button located on the flat end of the charger 3 times (end if the USB cable), pausing for 1 second between presses. Then wait 10 seconds or until the Fitbit logo appears.

The battery can last up to 7 days; because battery life is affected by use and other settings, actual results may vary, but the battery shouldn't be draining only after one or two days. Keep in mind that some of the feature that can drain the battery more rapidly are:

  • Built-in GPS (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 4 day when using this feature regularly, or up to 5 hours if you use it continuously).
  • Always-on display (Charge 5 can have a battery life of up to 3 days when using this feature).
  • Tracking SpO2 (Fitbit points out in this article that you may have to charge your Fitbit device more often when collecting SpO2 data).

Thank you for the information I had read this online.

I also chatted with two different agents, b9th dropped me part way through.

Anyway, my husband also has a charge 5. I've followed these steps several
times on each. NEVER has the logo come on.

Help, 3rd time I'm charging today. A new problem, it's worked fine. I've
turned off everything I can think of.

Thank you.

Just noticed same thing happened to my fitbit too. battery was fully charged last night and went down to 13% about an hour ago. I charged it to about 40%, then walked around for 10 min and the battery drained to 14%. I plugged into the charger and push the button 3x, but battery went down to 4%. it's currently charging now. FYI, it's my 2nd fitbit charge 5. first one died after 6 months when it would not charge at all.

Oh. No! Did they replace it?

Mine will be a year in April and aside from a couple of glitches has been
good until yesterday. Praying you get yours figured out! If you do please
let me know the secret!!

Yes, they replaced it. I got the current one (the replacement) around Sept/Oct last year.

Okay, I must have the worst of luck. I just charged charge 5 to 99% and wore it for like 10 min (sitting & typing) and battery is down to 70%.

meanwhile, I figure I can switch to my backup Inspire 2 and it won't get pass "download Fitbit app" during the setup. both ios and Fitbit were updated today. Is this a fitbit server problem or what's going on?

I have no idea but it seems as both of us are experiencing the same thing.
One would think this was a Fitbit problem, something major, system wide

I bought my Fitbit charge 5 in November 2023 so it's only 3 months old. It was working well until last week when it suddenly would not hold its charge, it goes from 100% to nothing within a few hours.

I have deleted ther Sp02 app and followed the steps you suggested in your last post.

Reading all the posts this seems to be a problem associated with this model.

Any help beyond this would be appreciated, failing all I would hope for a replacement.

So far I have had no luck. I don't think I have that app. I'm not able to
reset with power cord, will call again on Monday.

Charges to 100% then quickly drains. I've had mine a year in April and
this is new. I wonder if they did some sort of system wide update or
change??

No luck for me either. This morning, charge 5 battery was down to 3% (fully charged last night). I charged it to 99% and left it in my desk drawer for most of the dead. Now it's down to 2%.

I bought my charge 5 Feb 2022. around Aug 2022, it suddenly stopped charging then went dead. Fitbit sent me a replacement around Sept 2022. Now after 4/5 months, the replacement is having issue. I think this is probably a hardware problem that hasn't been addressed. Mine is out of warranty. even if fitbit were to offer me another replacement, I am not sure it will survive more than a few months.

Pretty much the same here, although I charged overnight, by noon it needed
charged again. So it is back on the charger now.

I will definitely be talking to someone at Fitbit tomorrow.

After 3 days of continual battery drain, turning everything icould possibly
think of, hitting reset button too many times to count, etc. Last night my
fitbit started holding a charge and continues to hold a charge. Go figure.

Any news on yours??

That’s great it’s working for you again. No luck for me either. After I saw your post, I charged mine to 70% but then it went down to 2% after 30 min. Did you update to the most recent firmware? Some on the forum suggested all the problems were caused by the firmware update and the trick is not to update firmware. I never updated the firmware for my replacement, and I wonder if I should.

Fitbit ibviously have a software/hardware problem from latest update. I have same issue for the past few days. Why can they not accept problem and sort things out. My wife bought another make 14 months ago at less than 20% of the Fitbit 5 price and has had no problems. Hers seems to have all the basic apps etc that most would need I also had no charging issues till a few days ago. Now total discharge in a few hours. Dreadful! I chatted with them electronically but got nowhere and was eventually cut off. Abominable service.

Not a fan!
