Is it possible to switch back to the main screen whilst recording a walk ? 

Sometimes it’s necessary to see the time ?

Welcome to the Fitbit community, @Linclass!

While tracking an exercise with your Charge 5, you can tap the display to change what's to be shown in the middle. By tapping a few times you so should be able to see the current time.
